Oak Cliff Design is a reader-supported editorial covering affordable mid-century modern home.
We started this in 2026 in Oak Cliff — the Dallas neighborhood where our favorite rooms have always been a bit eclectic, a bit bookish, and a lot warmer than the showroom photos suggest. The house next door has a Herman Miller shell chair by the fireplace and a stack of Aldus Manutius paperbacks on the shelf. That’s the kind of room we try to help readers build.
What we cover
Six things, in roughly this order of how often we shop for them:
- Seating — sofas, lounge chairs, reading chairs, dining chairs
- Tables — coffee, side, dining, writing desks
- Lighting — floor lamps, table lamps, sconces
- Home Decor — textiles, ceramics, wall art, mirrors
- Library — bookshelves, bookends, design monographs
How we choose what to recommend
Every guide starts with a long list and ends with a short one. We compare specs and materials, read customer reviews at scale looking for the complaints that repeat, cross-shop each piece against everything else in its price range, and cut anything with a softwood frame, a misleading photo, or a price that quietly assumes you won’t check. Some products we own and use; all of them we would buy with our own money. The full process is on our How We Review page.
How we pay the bills
When you buy something through a link on this site, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That keeps the lights on so we can keep writing. We only recommend products we’d buy with our own money — and in most cases, already have. See our editorial standards and affiliate disclosure.
Who’s behind it
Oak Cliff Design is written and edited by Bjorn, the site’s founding editor and resident essayist, and Agatha, who covers decor, textiles, and the small objects that finish a room. Oak Cliff Design is a publication of VentureSke LLC.
